The internet is fast becoming the preferred platform for artists all over the world to showcase their talent. At virtually no cost they can show their work directly to a public audience and communicate ideas that would have no chance of publication in more conventional media. Young photographer Victoriano Izquierdo is one of those artists. A product of the digital era and influenced by thousands of photographers from every corner of the planet, and who, like him, exhibit their work online.

In spite of his young age, at 17 years old he already boasts an extensive portfolio with over 1,500 photographs. Covering almost every subject, from portraits and landscapes to ethnographic work, his images are surprisingly accomplished. This work is displayed online at his flickr website, alongside comments of praise from countless visitors.

His photographs have been compared to paintings and demonstrate a mature understanding of light and context. Many of his works stand out for their unusual and striking subject matter. He often uses a distinct impressionist style with intense colours that create an idyllic image of an ideal world.

Ever since he bought his first camera four years ago, a Canon EOS 350D, he has not stopped showing the world what he believes are “images of cultural behaviour”. Although he hasn’t had the opportunity to exhibit in any galleries yet, his photos have been published in a number of different newspapers and magazines including Público and Ideal (the best selling newspaper in Granada, Jaen and Almeria). His work has also been covered in an article in El Mundo that nicknamed him “the light catcher”. A series of his photos depicting industrial landscapes were featured in the magazine Theknos, edited by the Colegi d’Enginyers Tecnics Industrial in Barcelona. As much as his photos are aesthetically striking, they are also pertinent examples of topical photojournalism.

His highest profile work to date has been with international agency Wideangle, who chose him for their Big Picture feature. His submission – a photograph entitled Smart Killer - demonstrates his talent. A menacing portrait of a picador dressed in gold emerging from the shadows. Judging by this, Victoriano Izquierdo is undoubtedly a photographer that we will all be talking about for many years to come.
