Hostal Antiguo Convento – Cordoba

The duo that is Juan Bolaños and María Dolores Salces opened the Antiguo Convento in 2010 inspired by the idea of creating a hostel with its very own style in which to make people feel at home. White-on-white that highlights the original features such as the carved wooden ceilings and Andalusian encaustic tiles. All rooms contain original artwork by Esteban Ruiz and have en-suite bathrooms. When you come back in the evening you’ll find the stairs and corridors lit by candles that ensure you don’t get lost on the way to bed.

The Antiguo Convento is very much a labour of love that gives you a boutique feel for hostel prices. As you enter into the central patio you are hit by personal touches such the record player and collection of LP’s (including The Clash, The Smiths, Camarón and The Cure) that are the life and soul of the party when they organize vinyl evenings and wine tastings. They offer an optional breakfast.

Hostal el Antiguo Convento is a work in progress. Every time I’ve visited there’s always something new to see or a new project afoot. From the roof terrace looking out over the old town of Cordoba to the changing selection of teas, coffees and cakes served at tea time, guests will find themselves wandering back to this home away from home to sit back, relax and make some friends.

Just a couple of blocks away from the impressive Mezquita (Mosque), restaurants and bars in the old city centre of Cordoba Hostal el Antiguo Convento is an ideal hotel for a visit to the city. There is free Wi-FI, a charming artist at the reception desk, a simple breakfast for when you can’t face taking to the streets without a coffee inside you and they offer extra beds for an additional fee.
